Hydraulic Service Products – Chemicals and Maintenance Solutions
The longevity of hydraulic systems depends on the quality of service products and the maintenance strategy applied. Properly selected hydraulic oils, technical chemicals and leak control products directly affect the durability of pumps, valves, cylinders and sealing components.
Hydraulic Oils in accordance with DIN 51524
Hydraulic oils used in fluid power systems must comply with DIN 51524. The main classifications include:
- HL – basic hydraulic oils with anti-oxidation and anti-corrosion additives,
- HLP – oils with anti-wear (AW) additives providing protection under load,
- HV – high viscosity index oils designed for operation in variable temperature conditions.
Selecting the correct oil type and viscosity grade is essential to maintain stable operating parameters, minimize component wear and reduce the risk of system failure.
Technical Chemicals for Hydraulic Maintenance
Hydraulic maintenance also includes the use of professional technical chemicals during assembly, repair and thread protection processes.
- Loctite products – threadlockers (e.g. Loctite 243) preventing loosening of threaded connections and anaerobic sealants replacing conventional gaskets in high-pressure hydraulic joints.
- Degreasers and cleaners – solvent-based products (e.g. Loctite SF 7063) required for proper surface preparation prior to bonding or sealing.
- Absorbents – granular materials and absorbent mats designed for rapid oil spill removal, ensuring workplace safety and environmental protection.
Oil Diagnostics and Proactive Maintenance
Regular hydraulic oil diagnostics includes monitoring viscosity, water content and solid contamination levels. These analyses enable early detection of oil degradation and internal component wear.
Implementing oil condition monitoring allows the transition from reactive maintenance to a proactive strategy, reducing downtime, repair costs and the risk of major hydraulic system failures.
