Hydraulic motors
Hydraulic motors
Hydraulic motors are output components in hydraulic power systems and operate in the opposite direction to hydraulic pumps. They convert fluid pressure and flow into torque and rotary shaft motion. The motor design should be selected according to the required speed, torque, operating pressure and application type.
Main types of hydraulic motors
- Orbital motors (gerotor / geroler): LSHT units providing high torque at low rotational speeds. They are used in wheel drives, drilling units, winches, wrapping machines and mobile machinery that require high force at low speed.
- Axial piston motors: designed for operation at high rotational speeds and high working pressures. They are often used in hydrostatic drives of mobile machines and in variable displacement systems.
- Gear motors: simple designs capable of high rotational speed with relatively lower torque. They are commonly used for driving cooling fans and auxiliary drive systems.
Operating conditions and service requirements
In hydraulic motors, especially piston motors, maintaining the correct hydraulic oil viscosity and high fluid cleanliness is critical. The lubricating film between the piston and cylinder surface is only a few micrometres thick, so solid contamination or oil degradation can lead to accelerated wear and reduced efficiency.
Proper filtration and monitoring of oil parameters directly affect hydraulic motor service life, system efficiency and torque stability in industrial and mobile applications.
